The finished pieces
Models of the 3 'hero' specimins (Quagga, Dodo and Tyhlacine) at the grant museum http://www.ucl.ac.uk/museums/zoology.
The museum has excellent examples of the animal remains but they are hard to imagine alive, The models were made to give visitors an idea of what the animals might have looked like when roaming the African cape, Mauritius and Tasmania.

The Grant Museum's 'hero' specimens
This blog is to keep track of a project of mine with the Grant musuem (UCL) it is to create 3 models for the 'Hero' specimens on display there- Quagga(extinct zebra), Dodo, and Thylacine(extinct marsupial predator).
The models should be a close representation but also be tough enough to withstand much handling by students. Further Projects if this is successful might include Devonian era fish models to replace the old and damaged plaster ones.
One main reason for me doing this blog is as an incentive to get down to it, been a few weeks and i've done very little.
